On the 2nd of July, me and my boyfriend took a week long holiday to Gran Canaria. It was a lovely break for the both of us and a place we had both never been to before. Our hotel was a 5 minute drive to Puerto Rico town that had your typical bars, restaurants and shops. Speaking of our hotel, like the others, it was fitted into the side of one of the many cliffs that surrounded the island. Being at such a height, it allowed us to have luxurious views, but for walking distance, it was an absolute killer; not so much down hill, but up... I'm surprised I haven't got legs of pure muscle by now! However, taxi fares didn't seem to be that expensive and from our hotel (Riu Vistamar) they were very accessible. So if you're not into the whole walking around scene, there is an alternative. Anyway, I'm going to stop with the ramble and post some pictures!
On our way!!
We didn't take any pictures on our first day due to being unbearably pale and surprise surprise I burnt straight away! I don't necessarily help myself with the lack of sun cream but I'll admit I do like to think I can handle the sun haha! However I am a blondie and I'm fair skinned and despite how much I would love to bronze easily, I just don't :( On our first night however we took pictures! You can see how oddly I burnt by looking at my legs. We decided to go into town after having some food and I tried shisha for the first time, I just coughed a lot to be honest so it was a fail haha!
The next day we went to the beach which was really nice, but I'm not one for swimming in the sea! We did however, go on a peddle boat which was really good! Connell jumped off the top of the slide (which is something I could just never do) and the sea was black where we were! We also had to walk back to the hotel, which was easily a 2 mile walk and it was all up hill!!! I cant even explain how annoyed I was, "exercising" in the blistering heat is just a no no, thankfully though we had icelollys!
When we finally got back to the room and got half ready, we took some pictures from the balcony due to its excellent lighting :)
Our hotel Riu Vistamar, literally had the best food ever! Better than Puerto Rico town in my opinion. This was our second night. Later, we walked up the road to an Irish bar called Tommy Tuckers which was lovely! It was very welcoming and it played live Irish music; also a singer named Jamal would perform sometimes with more present music! So it was a little bit for everyone, personally I loved both :) I would definitely recommend if anyone is up for visiting! We played pool and Connell taught me how to play mini golf, I was awful obviously but i enjoyed it! I think he let me off a lot too haha.
Later on in the week we decided to have a meal out! (I preferred the hotel food but this was really nice also!) Connell ordered a hugeeeee mixed grill, he couldn't even finish it! Oh, one thing I will mention, I'm sure like many places the PR's will try and get you to eat in their restaurants and will plead to the high heavens that their food is the equivalent to a brick of gold, but it would really aggravate me and honestly if they would just let you look and please yourself and pick what you fancy it would really change my opinion!
The road from our hotel was gorgeous and my favourite backdrop for photos! ;)
Probably my favourite picture with my favourite person! This was another night...
One night we got drunk! We were actually approached by a group of teens from Denmark, and they asked us would we like to go to town with them and we couldnt think of anything better to do, so why not?
I never really imagined Gran Canaria to have "nightlife" but it weren't too shabby! I'm not one to get drunk on holiday, I don't know, it's not really my thing. I'd regret it too much in the morning which I did! But now looking back, I don't regret it because it's a story to tell and was surprisingly, a great night! As I said though, the morning after... not so much.
On our final night, we ate out again and spent the remainder of the night in Tommy Tuckers playing pool! I won again for the third time, perfect way to end the night; in victory!
The holiday went by so fast and the weather completely made it for me! As well as the hotel food! I honestly can't stress how much I loved it ❤️ until next time!
love, Lauren x
